Free Pumpkin Knitting Pattern for Halloween with straight needles

 

Materials Needed 

* Scheepjes Catona Cotton 4-ply cotton yarn
    2 x 10g Ball of Rich Coral #410
    1 x 10g Ball of Caramel #506 (Or a scrap of brown for stalk) 
* 3mm Knitting Needles (US3.25) (UK11)
* Tapestry Needle
* Toy Stuffing

Stitch Directory

k       - Knit 
p       - Purl
m1    - Make one Stitch  by picking up a new stitch between stitches 
k2tog - knit next 2 stitches together
( )       - repeat instructions within the brackets, the number of times specified.

 

Pattern Notes 

* Tension Gauge - 26 Sts x 36 Rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm)
* Finished Pumpkin size - 9cm round by 4cm high. (3.5 x 1.5 inches)
* Pattern is suitable for a beginner.

Pumpkin - Using Rich Coral

Cast on 11sts

Row 1 and ALL ODD rows - p

Row 2 - (k1, m1) 10 times, k1. (21)

Row 4 - (k2, m1) 10 times, k1. (31)

Row 6 - (k3, m1) 10 times, k1. (41)

Row 8 - (k4, m1) 10 times, k1. (51)

Row 10 - (k5, m1) 10 times, k1. (61)

Row 12 - (k6, m1) 10 times, k1. (71)

Rows 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 & 24 - k. (71)

Row 26 - (k5, k2tog) 10 times, k1. (61)

Row 28 - (k4, k2tog) 10 times, k1. (51)

Row 30 - (k3, k2tog) 10 times, k1. (41)

Row 32 - (k2, k2tog) 10 times, k1. (31)

Leaving a long yarn tail, weave the tail through the last 11 loops on the needle and pull to close.

Sew up the side seam and stuff the pumpkin.

Weave the yarn tail through the 11 cast on stitches and pull to close the opening.

Take the yarn up the side of the pumpkin and down through the centre from the top to the bottom, pull tight and repeat around the pumpkin another 5 times, making 6 wedges.

Secure the end.

Stalk - Using Caramel yarn 
Cast on 7 sts
Row 1 - k
Row 2 - p
Cast off, and sew onto the top centre of your pumpkin.

Making up your Pumpkin 

 Making up step 1

Leaving a long yarn tail, weave the tail through the last 11 loops on the needle and pull to close.

 Making up Step 2

Sew up the side seam and stuff the pumpkin. Weave the yarn tail through the 11 cast on stitches and pull to close the opening.

 Making up Step 3

Take the yarn up the side of the pumpkin and down through the centre from the top to the bottom, pull tight and repeat around the pumpkin another 5 times, making 6 wedges.

Secure all ends and add the stalk.
